HOW BRANDS USE SHELF & FLOOR DISPLAYS

Shelf displays and floor-standing display units (FSDUs) move your brand out of the back shelf and into the center of the store. We source custom-designed, custom-printed shelf and floor displays in corrugated, solid board, and hybrid acrylic formats from manufacturers in India and China — shipped direct to your door via air freight.

Custom Shelf & Floor Displays:
A Sourcing Guide for Small Brands

Shelf and floor displays represent a step up in retail ambition — and in manufacturing complexity. They require structural engineering, accurate print alignment across large panels, and flat-pack construction that a retailer can assemble without tools. When done right, they are among the most powerful in-store brand assets a small brand can deploy.

Display types we source

  • Floor-standing display units (FSDUs) — a freestanding corrugated structure typically 1.2m–1.8m in height, with multiple product shelves, a large header panel, and a broad printed exterior. The most visible format in any retail environment. Placed on the shop floor, at the end of an aisle, or at a high-traffic entry point.

  • Pallet displays — a display unit designed to sit on or replace a standard retail pallet. Used in grocery, big-box, and warehouse retail formats. High capacity, impactful at scale, less common for small brands but relevant for food and beverage brands placing in club stores or grocery chains.

  • Sidekick / power wing displays — a narrow display unit that attaches to the side panel of an existing retail shelf unit, creating an additional product facing in the aisle without requiring dedicated floor space. Used for impulse products, seasonal additions, and cross-merchandising.

  • Corrugated shelf-ready packaging (SRP) — a hybrid between shipping carton and shelf display. The product ships in the SRP tray, which is then torn open along a perforation and placed directly on the retail shelf as an organized tray-style display. Eliminates shelf-filling labor for the retailer — a feature that grocery buyers and convenience retailers actively look for.

  • Header-and-shelf display inserts — narrower display structures designed to fit within an existing gondola shelf bay, adding a printed header above the product and a structured tray below it. Gives your brand a dedicated visual block within a mixed shelf.

  • Corrugated peg-hook panels — a flat or slightly angled corrugated panel with a grid of peg hooks for hanging blister-packed, carded, or bagged products. Common in hardware, beauty accessories, and toy retail.

  • Hybrid acrylic-and-corrugated floor displays — a corrugated structural base with acrylic shelf inserts or an acrylic header panel for a more premium in-store visual. Used by beauty and lifestyle brands placing in mid-to-premium retail environments.

Structural and engineering considerations

Unlike a CDU, a floor display must be structurally self-supporting under significant product weight — often 10–30kg or more across all shelves. Before ordering, confirm:

  • Total product load (number of units × weight per unit) the display needs to support

  • Number of shelf levels and shelf depths required by your product's footprint

  • Assembly method — flat-pack FSDUs are assembled by store staff; the assembly process should require no tools and take under five minutes; we will verify this with the manufacturer

  • Locking tabs and base construction — the base of an FSDU must be wide and reinforced enough to prevent tipping when loaded; this is a critical safety specification

Print considerations for large-format displays

Floor displays involve large surface areas — the header panel, side wings, shelf faces, and base panels all offer printable real estate. Treat this space as a brand campaign, not just a label:

  • Use the header panel for a strong brand visual and benefit-led headline

  • Use shelf faces for product names, flavor/variant callouts, or price-point messaging

  • Use side wings for lifestyle photography or secondary brand messaging

  • Consider die-cut header shapes (non-rectangular top edges) for additional shelf visibility

WHY ORDER CUSTOM FLOOR & SHELF DISPLAYS?

Because a freestanding display turns any floor into your floor.

A product on a generic shelf competes with everything else on that shelf. A product in its own branded floor display is its own destination. The FSDU is how challenger brands punch above their weight in retail — it signals to both retailers and consumers that the brand is investing in the category, committed to the relationship, and serious about sell-through.

For small brands approaching retail buyers, a well-designed display solution is also a sales tool. A buyer who sees that you can provide a shelf-ready FSDU alongside your product is a buyer who sees a lower-friction path to stocking you — because you've already solved the merchandising problem for them.
