Ribbon, Twine & Bows

The finishing touch that turns a package into a gift.

HOW BRANDS USE RIBBON, TWINE & BOWS

A ribbon is almost nothing by weight. By impression, it is everything. Branded ribbon, custom-printed twine, and pre-made bows are the final layer of packaging that tells a customer their order was put together with care. We source custom ribbon, twine, and bow options from manufacturers in India and China, shipped direct to you via air freight.

Apparel & Lifestyle

Satin ribbon used to tie folded garments inside a presentation box, or as the handle material on boutique shopping bags. Printed with the brand name for a consistently branded presentation.

Jewelry & Accessories

A flat hand-tied satin bow in brand color on the lid of a rigid jewelry box, often in the same shade as the box itself for a tonal, understated elegance. Grosgrain ribbon handles on boutique shopping bags.

Specialty Food & Artisan Products

Jute or raffia ribbon tied around a hamper, gift bundle, or specialty food jar. Raffia with a product label and a sprig of dried herb is a classic artisan food presentation.

Candles & Home Fragrance

Baker's twine looped around a kraft-wrapped candle or glass jar, tied into a simple knot or bow. A natural, handmade signal that pairs with an attached hang tag.

Gift & Seasonal Packaging

Metallic or organza pull bows applied to seasonal gift boxes and subscription boxes. Efficient at scale, consistent in appearance, and immediately gift-signaling to the recipient.

Custom Ribbon, Twine & Bows:
What to Know Before You Order

Ribbon and twine occupy a specific role in the brand packaging toolkit — they are finishing elements, not structural ones. They do not protect or contain. They signal. A satin ribbon tied around a rigid box says "this is a gift." A branded twine looped through a hang tag says "this was made by someone who cares about the details." Here is what to source and what to specify.

Types we source

  • Satin ribbon — the classic smooth, sheen ribbon with a soft feel and a slightly reflective surface. Available in almost any color. Used for bow-tying on gift boxes, tying around bag handles, and wrapping product bundles. The go-to for premium beauty, jewelry, and gifting brands.

  • Grosgrain ribbon — a ribbed, matte ribbon with more structure and a slightly textured surface than satin. Holds a bow shape better than satin. Popular for branded bag handles, gift wrapping, and apparel hang tag attachment.

  • Organza ribbon — a sheer, lightweight ribbon with a slightly stiff structure. Creates full, airy bows. Used in gift packaging, floral arrangements, and seasonal presentation kits.

  • Woven-edge (jacquard) ribbon — a ribbon with the brand name, logo, or pattern woven directly into the fabric using a jacquard loom. The most premium ribbon format — the branding is part of the material, not printed on top of it. Used by high-end jewelry, beauty, and luxury lifestyle brands.

  • Printed satin or grosgrain ribbon — a standard ribbon substrate with a brand logo, wordmark, or repeating pattern printed on the surface. More accessible than woven jacquard but visually similar from a distance.

  • Cotton baker's twine — a twisted two-color cotton cord with a handmade, artisan aesthetic. Very popular with food, candle, and lifestyle brands. Used for tying around kraft paper wrapping, looping through hang tags, and finishing product bundles.

  • Jute twine — a natural, rough-textured cord with a strongly rustic and eco feel. Common in natural food, homeware, and farm-to-table brand contexts.

  • Satin cord (rat-tail cord) — a narrow, smooth satin tube cord used as an elegant alternative to twine for tying around boxes or threading through hang tags on premium products.

  • Pre-made pull bows — factory-assembled pull-string bows in satin or metallic foil. Available in standard sizes and colors. A convenient, no-tying-required option for brands packing at volume.

  • Hand-tied satin bow bundles — individually hand-tied flat bows supplied in bulk, ready to attach. Common with jewelry boxes and gift product packaging where a flat bow is preferable to a pull bow.

  • Raffia ribbon — a natural or synthetic flat straw-like ribbon. Common in natural food, gift hamper, and rustic lifestyle brand packaging.

Specifications to confirm before ordering

  • Width — ribbon is produced in standard widths: 6mm, 10mm, 16mm, 25mm, 38mm, and wider. Wider ribbon makes a more visible bow and wrapping statement; narrower ribbon is elegant and refined.

  • Length — specify the roll length (meters per roll) and the number of rolls required

  • Color matching — provide your Pantone reference for accurate color matching; ribbon dye lots can vary between production runs, so keeping your Pantone on file is important for repeat orders

  • Single-face vs. double-face satin — single-face satin has a sheen on one side and a matte back; double-face has sheen on both sides and is necessary for applications where both faces will be visible (e.g., a tied bow where the ribbon loops are visible from all sides)

WHY ORDER CUSTOM RIBBON & TWINE?

Because the way something is tied says as much as what it contains.

Ribbon and twine carry an almost universal cultural association with care, craft, and celebration. They signal that the person who packed the order thought about how it would feel to receive it. For small retail brands whose competitive advantage is the quality of the customer experience, ribbon and twine are an extraordinarily cost-efficient way to reinforce that promise.

Custom-printed or woven ribbon also functions as a brand impression after the box is opened — or even before it. A customer receiving a box tied with a ribbon in your brand color, printed with your name, has experienced a brand touchpoint before they've even lifted the lid.
